Time off, taking photos of gulls produced this:
I am in awe of the sheer aerodynamic beauty of that bird. Just don't count the number of deleted shots to get that one.

I wasn’t even aware the champions league was taking place. But then I freely admit to not being a normal person.
No one is normal
Well, I appreciate the picture knowing how hard it is to get good photos of birds in flight without very sophisticated kit. At least gulls are big!
And yes, they are very beautiful when they are not being a nuisance.
I admit the kit was not bad – but I was only guessing how to use it….
Lovely photo… love watching birds fly 🙂 …They allow me to take flight from the often rather intense and depressing times of life, particularly now, for a while.
What kit – camera – are you using? I’m a real novice 🙂 But want to learn. Thanks
That was taken with a Sony bridge camera – an RX4 I think – which is not cheap, I know
But it was fun to use
Most of the time I am on an iPhone, and am pretty pleased with what that can do
This is a good Gull story

Indeed…..
Love it. Sometimes there are surprises when viewing back home to see what you’ve captured.
Us amateurs can’t hold a candle to the ones who do it for a living. My first attendance at an annual Scottish Nature Photography Festival here in Perthshire (with several speakers and their eye-popping images on the screen) proved to be educational. I discovered they would be willing to take several DAYS of lying in a hide in uncomfortable conditions to get the ‘one shot’ they were after. Me? Get tired after 20 minutes.
I took a lot of now deleted photos in 20 minutes or so, and enjoyed it
Superb shot.
I did not know there was yet another champions league final (zzzzzzzzzzzzz) on Saturday either but I do know that Nottingham Forest are playing Huddersfield today for a place in the English championship and its not even on terrestrial TV.
And that reminds me these events have little to do with sport these days – it’s all contrived now to extend the season and the associated revenue generation. If normal is a being sucker for that – well I’m glad I’m not normal is all I can say.
It football fans had any sense they’d go on strike and withdraw their money until they got the game they wanted – locally owned with revenue and talent more fairly shared amongst the football league.
I tend to agree with that
And I do go to matches, albeit only every now and again and League 1 of late
great shot Richard, glad to see you taking some time off.
Richard
I volunteer for the UK pollinating monitoring scheme which involves counting/photographing insects. I often take hundreds of photos (mostly blurred) just to get a few that are in focus.
Aren’t you glad its now card that stores them rather than the old film!!
Great photo by the way.

I take large numbers of photos knowing I will delete most now, very different from my 35mm SLR days. And most are now much better than I managed back then, on my phone. I still sometimes hanker a ‘real’ camera though, hence this session, which was a lot of fun.
