Most apt.
I’m not sure where the Dunning-Kruger effect would sit, but this video offers a good explanation of the D-K effect:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyipktSZUlQ
It is only 5 mins but rather good & seems relevant to your Venn dia.
I did like the slide @ 3.37: point 2: it is impossible to explain to them that they are incompetent. Suggesting either closed mind &/or stupdity. The latter having been coverd in previous BTLs wrt Bonhoffer. I am sure that the D-K effect is more than a little present in what passes for the current Uk “government”.
Agreed
I was writing a long reply to a earlier post but decided to edit it before doing so. In the meantime just seeing this headline at Groan site and can’t resist adding it here.
“ Boris Johnson to examine hospital data before decision on Covid rules
Sources suggest No 10 leaning away from stricter curbs in England, as doctors’ union says lack of response is ‘ludicrous’ “
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/dec/26/boris-johnson-to-examine-hospital-data-before-decision-on-covid-rules
I say: The guy who his whole life is presented as someone who never passed any examination without cheating is apparently promoted by the MSM as someone capable of being able to “examine hospital data “ .
We deserve everything we get by carrying on believing in this guff.
We could, of course, have a very long and complex conversation about what ‘evil’ is, or even if it exists at all, in ‘real’ moral and ethical terms.
The diagram as displayed makes a good point. But as others have said, Dunning-Kruger means that logic and reasoned inference are not likely to cut it. Let’s attempt some specificity.
If we mark the ‘X’ circle as ‘opportunity (power) to indulge in corrupt, immoral or criminal activity’. The ‘Y’ circle can remain as stated. The ‘Z’ intersection might then be ‘Tories who knowingly opted to act with evil intent, abdicating their duty to act as moral guardians or exemplars’.
Since “…moral evils do result from the intentions or negligence of moral agents.” https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/concept-evil/#NieAttEvi
I am not trying to play word games. I would like the point being made to match up with the requirements of both Actus Reus and Mens Rea in criminal law, because I want to see prosecutions and convictions for what those responsible have done. I don’t want to see the absolute criminality of politicians and their cronies get washed away by moral psychobabble about the term ‘evil’. After convictions and sentencing, the writers can label it how they like. And ‘evil’ at that point would work fine.
All fair points
I did wonder about ‘wrong doing’ instead
But evil, now summarises how I feel about what they are doing
Humour with an edge. Much appreciated by my lovely family and friends.
