No one could think Sebastian Payne, who writes for the FT, anything but a Tory. He issued this tweet last night:
The message is loud and clear,. The right-wing of the Tory party want to end Covid restrictions without caring for the consequences. The government knows that this is madness, but will not rely on Labour votes to retain masks. And so, to save Boris Johnson masks must go, even if (as will happen) thousand will die as a result.
This is democide in action.
I just hope that people realise when cases rise very rapidly, as they are now going to do.

Proof if it were ever needed that the modern Tory party is now just a front or conduit for vested interests that drive policy – a party for rich, establishment back seat drivers and puppeteers.
A Government in name only.
I was looking at some jobs advertised by my public sector organisation the other day and the wages were extremely low – two to three grades lower than what they were around 2010. And there’s the other problem – wage depression that will lead to a credit boom or at least on over reliance credit that cannot be healthy for anyone but banks and those investing debt.
Well said Pilgrim – there is an ideological aversion to governing the nation within the Tory party, who are fundamentally a conduit for minority interests. I feel this aversion to governance also extends to the Labour Party, whose MPs adhere to a careerist management style. Managing is not the same as governing.
On which point https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1415077620383985666.html
Thousands will also die in poorer countries to satisfy an economic theory. People used to be sacrificed to imagined gods. Now they are sacrificed to imagined theories.
My suspicion is that this is an offering to the former UKIP people who have joined the Conservative Party.

For the record, David Allen Green doesn’t agree with your Falconer link:

MPs offices should be deluged with shots of this tweet. A stark, iconic reminder of the impotence of their status.
Masks remain compulsory in the places of highest transmission risk, that being operating theatres, and the 1861 Law forbidding reckless and/or intentional spread of a communicable disease is still on the Statute book. If someone wants to bring a case they can, although funding would be helpful.
I am angry that hand-washing at airports has not been made compulsory. The next world-wide threat could be a touch disease and anglo-greek research has modelled this and found it would be an excellent and low-cost intervention https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31872479/
At what point does this become a crime against humanity?
I think it has
It will cause more thousands of deaths as deliberate policy. As such it may be open to a challenge in the European Court of Human Rights(?)
If govt has a ready means of protecting lives (vaccination) and yet chooses to let young people (and hence older peope) get ill and die instead- when almost half the total population is still unvaccinated – is that not legally challengeable?
But the policy might not work – even in its own terms. As Stephen Reicher says – it sends out the message that the state no longer protectsts us – and also tries to lull us into not protecting ourselves – the worst of both worlds.
It will polarise society – as it intends to – between extreme ‘libertarians’ and those who are only too aware that this is madness, and who will be more cautious and not travel or shop or eat out.
The economy will not revive as hoped and govt will lose credibility. But they have already got away with a higher death rate than many other countries, and they will no doubt hope to get away with this.
I think there will be a big effort on the part of this govt. (actually, as an aside, what do we call them as they are not governing) and their lackeys in the lamestream media to try to divert attention on to other things and away from the pandemic. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the amount of coverage given to it drop significantly.
Also, I think there will be continued moves to divide the country such as ‘mask wearers v non-mask wearers’

I had two hours of trying to convince our club bar, not to abandon Covid measures and masks and to definitely not restart service and seating at the bar! At least until the end of September – just two more months – but they are as believing of the ever changing bullshit of their beloved BrexShithead government that has never adhered to science. Many still think that the hospitals were never in crisis because they saw empty wards completely ignoring that it is the icu capacity which is limited and they don’t walk past when they go down hospital corridors. They think their nurse friend went home because their ward is closed means there is no shortage of icu nurses. They look at the unused Nightingale hospitals built by film set builders in 3 months instead of real hospitals which take 3 years… just as these great craftsmen are now building new customs facilities at breakneck speeds to deal with the live animal export requirements of BrexShit…
My resignation signature is hovering over the letter.
The dumbedowntoned public is beyond seeing the reality and in front of their own eyes, which are hooked into the MSM news and talk radio shows.
They believe that this is a matter of ‘personal freedom’ and choice as if they are suddenly some great philosophers who have just discovered the concept!
They believe the toff leaders are making imaginary ‘hard’ decisions.
Because scientists would never think it safe or don’t understand risk! I ask if they took a vaccine.
They believe they are immune from just another flu. I ask again if they took the vaccine.
Just as they believed it was definitely coming home and never going to Rome.
It’s Goebellian
I think Govellian is the term we use these days. Goebbels was an amateur by comparison.
Very good
Could these new suicidal measures be challenged by judicial review (Good Law Project)? At least Londoners will be protected by continued mask-wearing on public transport. Lets hope the general population will continue with safety measures after 19 July and ignore the nonsense of “freedom” day! on 19 July!
A vessel cannot contain as much hatred and bad feelings as the Tory’s without imploding
Have you not seen the recent polls? They are as popular as ever!
