Agreed.
And in doing so, the nature of our society is revealed.
The rich rule rule obviously.
As do the pension funds and their faulty, narrow minded obsession with the value of the pension fund.
Both seek a rent from their investments that impacts on investment in what they invest in; both retard decent pay in the workforces employed where they invest. Both siphon off wealth from others in order to retain the value of their wealth.
My view is that we need a new way to provide pensions – robbing working people to keep the retired is the sign of a sick society. I have nothing against the retired – we all retire in the end – but the present means is unacceptable. My view is that Government should be the pension pot of last resort. All they have to do is print the money.
I haven’t a clue as to how the tax system can deliver better behaviour but I bet you do! Obviously the rich do not like to have their money destroyed by tax – which is what it does really – retires it.
New justifications are needed when it comes to dealing with the rich.
1) They increasingly use their money to help politicians or political agendas that often work against the common good or make ideas/debates in the political economy unequal (BREXIT for example).
2) Their wealth subverts markets because they have an unfair advantage in terms of acquiring assets which leads to monopoly power. Others in society are pushed out of these markets (housing for example, where you live).
Finally after many years of austerity, there is a group in our society whose only pleasure is to see people suffer like they have done.
But I still think that many would care of they knew more about what is actually going on. It’s not a lack of care but a lack of awareness or the opportunity to ‘know’ in my view anyway.
It’s very hard to get that over in a society dominated by mass involvement vehicles like ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘The Voice’, Big Brother’, ‘Love Island’ and mass advertising.
Put the boot on the other foot. What if the 16A bus from A to B in any town was advertised as well as the next new model of Toyota? You bet that bus would be popular!!
People have to have what they care about changed – that is the challenge. It’s the agnotological age – remember!?
