It is almost universally agreed that accountancy is in a mess.
Accounts don't meet users' needs.
Tax authorities have to create extra reports for their purposes.
The environment is being ignored by accounts.
And much of the data available on public record is useless to those who have questions to ask.

Your point about the dependency of creditors on supplying to their customers was an excellent one. Creditors can be very vulnerable to the poor quality of reporting accountants.
It’s been the same continuing, depressing, story during my 44 years as a Chartered Accountant. Is there any mileage in considering an appeal to the Privy Council on the grounds that ICAEW is clearly not meeting the obligations contained within its Charter?
I hope to be doing a lot more work on this issue soon
