I am well aware that exceptions do not prove things. And the exceptional fact that Weston hospitalWeston hospital near Bristol had to shut yesterday because of excessive Covid-19 admissions may prove nothing.
But it reminded me that on VE Day, which was the day lockdown in the UK came to an effective end, a doctor told me to expect an upturn in hospital admissions sixteen days later. That was on the basis that it takes six to incubate Covid 19 and another ten to then reach the point where admission is required, if it is going to be.
I am hoping Weston is an exception. If this week suggests otherwise the plans to end lockdown will look very premature. Time will tell.

I’m expecting admissions to go up to be honest at some time based on what I’m seeing around me so I concur.
In the small rural town where I live, I’d say that the lockdown is very well respected.
But in the City where I work – no way. There is a lot of mingling going on. So another spike might not be uniform, but it could be localised.
I have to say that overall it still seems to be working here
But people are heading to the beach this week….
The town that I work in is much busier this morning albeit that many people are queuing outside the banks. Our office stayed open during the lockdown but with much reduced(skeleton) staffing – 3/4 of the staff had the virus at some point (we think). We figured that our interactions had become a closed loop as there were no other ‘outside’ connections except food shopping. The remaining 1/4 of staff remained clear of the virus.
I may not be putting this at all well – but my point is that the easing of restrictions is a massive change and I would guess at significantly more infections in the coming weeks.
So do I….
If you had it I hope you’re OK
One son and I have, I am sure
The other son shared the house with us and not a hint of it
Thanks – all well now – me and my wife both had it in March as far as we can tell.
I’ve added English regions and local authorities to my visualiser. You can see North Somerset daily cases here: https://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/ngoddard/covid19/index.html?view=DDFH8Vorr3tJaIRluRNOl
It looks like they’ve been slowly building for weeks with a small recent increase in rate. Doesn’t look like they ever really locked down properly there.
One suggestion is that Hinckley C kept working….
My son told me this morning that he and colleagues at Taunton Hospital are now taking the strain because Weston Super Mare Hospital has closed, following the mass visit to the local beaches by hordes of visitors from the Midlands – Im horrified at this and worried for him and his colleagues (who include his wife, my daughter in law)
