40 years ago this morning I became an articled clerk at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co (now KPMG), and so began my accountancy training.
I don't regret it, at all.
I do wonder if they do.
In 40 years time I could still be around, and blogging. But it's unlikely.
That's life.
Thanks for reading this post.

Haha, I wonder if they regret starting you on this path too! Not really, it always good to see someone finding their calling, and to still have passion for the field 40 years later means it was all worthwhile. I’m sure you still have another 40 years in you Richard, if you apply yourself 😉
A question that has just popped into my head, that maybe you could help clarify? How does government subsidy work? You know, like oil and trains get subsidised, but then make profit because they are private companies. If an industry needs subsidised, surely it’s better to have it public owned? How does that work within the framework of tax and the green new deal? ,,,, that was a few questions eh, you can choose which one you prefer!
I’ll try to get to the questions
But I am massively busy today
Happy anniversary! And may the next 40 years be as fruitful as the last. By then 100 will be the new 80!
🙂
My God!
40 years!
And you’ve emerged as a human being!!
Amazing! There is hope!
Not much….
Given the litany of lies published about Scotland being a financial drain on the UK, ‘vote Labour, lose Scotland’ would be, for the Scots, an excellent slogan! The English public are, in the main, convinced that Scotland is ‘holding back’ the glorious UK and their ‘Empire 2.0’ project, and should, therefore, be kicked out. Bring it on, I say, the sooner the better! A UK-wide referendum on Scottish Independence would deliver the desired result…
P.S. Thank you!
Richard, congratulations on this milestone. Earlier this year, I reached the 50 year point as a bean-counter, having started with Touche Ross Bailey & Smart in early 1969. Keep well. Jeff
Thanks Jeff
