What did we do to deserve an infantile mainstream media ?
The over reactions I’ve seen are telling us where the Greens are going wrong.
I think that when we talk about green issues, we talk too much – we over load the change agenda when we are dealing with those who do not want to change for whatever reason. We try to include every problem because there are human beings in green science fighting/wanting to get their contribution heard and recognised.
So for example, the issues with bovine methane. Sure – it is a problem and I’m not saying that it isn’t.
But the more they shove in, the more it looks like the green movement is trying to panic people and the more holes emerge to be poked at, and stupid misrepresentations are enabled and the Greens are undermined (particularly other more serious issues).
So, in order to deal with this, the green movement must agree on what the priorities are (cars, coal or cows) and then deal with one at a time in my view.
We are living in a world in which capitalism has created a feeling of unconstrained consumption reducing too many of us to nothing more than unquestioning infants who burst into tears when Mummy says ‘No – you can’t have anymore’.
The Green movement needs to learn to be as sly as those who oppose them. And the same goes for MMT advocates as well. It’s a dirty world out here and it’s not just in our rivers, our air and our food.
