I noticed this morning that at some time on Wednesday 2017 became the second most successful year in the history of this blog, when 2015's 1.931 million total reads were passed in the current year to date.
Last year was the most successful year, when total reads were 2.04 million.
With more than a quarter of this year to go it does rather look as if that record is at risk of falling sometime soon.
Thanks for reading this post.

Well deserved.
Congratulations.
Let us hope that means that more people are paying attention.
Guy isn’t.
His c.v. explains much I think.
And well deserved indeed. The time, effort and wisdom that you put into it is hugely appreciated. I know of no other blog covering these topics that has the same dynamic. It makes both a practical & inspirational contribution towards achieving a fairer society. Don’t stop the music!
Thanks
Congratulations Richard.
It’s a fascinating blog, hopefully 3 million by the end of 2018 – no pressure!
No, none at all
I’ll have to get up even earlier, that’s all
Well done Richard
I echo all the sentiments expressed above.
What I love about this blog is the passion and intelligence driving it. I used to think tax was an incredibly boring subject, but the way you (Richard) talks about it brings it alive.
He gives it context and points out the consequences. This gives it meaning and power.
He applies morals and values to it as well, helps us see that tax is so much more than about numbers or rules and regs, it’s about how people treat each other, the relationships between people and power.
I also enjoy the fact Richard calls people out – even the most powerful people – when they’re talking nonsense. It reminds me what democracy is about and how precious it is.
I have learned more in the last six months than in the last twenty years by reading this blog.
Well done.
Thank you
When I manly write this to work out what I think that’s some compliment
Sometimes, I find that until I have written something down I don’t actually know what I think. I find out by reading it back to myself.
The delete button is god’s gift to humanity.
Lol
A telling effort on your part Richard. Your stamina as well as your writing is inspiring. You set a high bar for the rest of us to follow, no complaints.
Have you thought of inviting advertising copy from companies in the “green” marketplace, that have an advertising budget? I’m sure they would much rather spend their money supporting you rather than Google? You have the footfall.
Bob
That was never the motive
I am happy to be ad free unless and until I need it
A clean uncluttered blog is a beautiful thing.
If or when you need it say so. I haven’t got a bean at present, but I don’t intend to be poor for ever. And would gladly support what you are doing.
Thanks Andy
I appreciate your comments here
Ideas are worthy more than beans right now
If that ever changes I’ll come knocking
Congratulations.
Your blog is the first thing I read each morning.
I don’t necessarily agree with every word but….
Long may you continue to provide such much-valued comment
My blog is the first thing I do most days
Thank you
I have shared the following links several times with ignorant Conservatives (but not because I’m a Labour supporter; I’m not)

Any others I should have handy?
I am sure there are
I do not specialise in remembering my own blogs
Rightly, or wrongly
Keep up the good work but maintain your work/life balance.
I do
Time with friends and a film with my sons yesterday and did the shopping and cooked
And two do walks
I write fast
(And yes, it sometimes shows)
I have followed you in my Labour days and in the last 3 years as an SNP member. Others have been finding their way to your blogs from across all parties I hope, because you have more than proved yourself as one of the few political economists that people trust. What is just as important is how you write and lay out your blogs Richard. Sometimes economic data and information is quite deep and complex for many folk but you explain it in layman terms for all to understand and you educate many who would never have wanted to understand more than the basics in tax before. Thank you for all your informative blogs over the years but from my personal view, especially those regarding GERs, you are so well respected in Scotland for your massive contribution of knowledge and the hard truths on GERs, changes will hopefully come now.
The Housing Convention in Glasgow will definitely be enhanced with your input as one of the speakers, sadly I’m on the east side of Scotland but I look forward to watching any footage or blogs on it.
Thank you
I am also at the COSLA conference in Crieff this week – but that one is not open to public attendance
