i seem to recall that it was said of President Gerald Ford that he could not walk and chew gum at the same time.
i admit I can multi-task somewhat better than that. But I am at present working like fury on my next book, which involves some significant new ideas on tax havens. I have only six weeks to write it and a big speaking schedule over the same period.
If I am blogging less than usual now you know why.

In between your writing and chewing, you may find this an interesting transcript of a speech by Michael Hudson given in Austria about the perils of financialised health care (via TTIP) for the elderly creeping into Europe (where not already prevalent).
Let’s face it, capitalism has no need for the elderly except as consumers, so we should all be very worried!
Five key concerns:
1. Triage: restricting the most expensive health care only to the wealthy
2. Blaming the victims for their unhealthy environment as if the problem were their “personal responsibility.”
3. Dangers of privatization of health law under the TTIP
4. Dangers of financialization
5. Danger of trade agreements raising the cost of drugs and medical technology

All this at a time of an ageing population – as usual, Neo-liberalism is a manifestation of what Poe called ‘The Imp of the Perverse.’
The original version was somewhat cruder than “walk”.
I am aware
And I think it was LBJ who said it
He knew how to do crude
But he did achieve high office. And I don’t recall him being that bad a chap. After all someone does have to run America. Let’s hope the next one is called Clinton ( and most Americans I have spoken to are cool on that ). But the alternative is worse than even Lyndon!
