This is excellent:
The point regarding other European countries doing very well without our levels of inequality is very powerful.

Please be aware that Dutch income statistics are a bit misleading. There is a serious tax evasion among the very rich in the Netherlands:
40 % of the house holds owing more than 10 million euro, ‘have’ incomes less than 100,000.
16 % even less than 25,000 euro.
At least, that’s what they state on their income tax declaration.
The Netherlands are already sliding towards the UK model and poverty is increasing rapidly.

Interesting….
But do not ignore evasion here either
And the impact of our domicile rule
I’m not surprised to hear that the much vaunted greater equality of northern Europe is on the wain.
It is indeed excellent.
And, however inexact or not the comparisons with other European countries, such a level of income inequality in the UK should be ringing alarm bells everywhere. Why isn’t it? What can be done to get this video the exposure and attention it deserves?
The average wage in the UK is £12 an hour? Statistics manipulation again. Few up north are getting paid £12 an hour!
No: in fairness that is a UK average
The average wage seems always to be based on the highest average they can find. Believe me, in the north east where I live, most people in ordinary jobs will be hard pressed to earn £8-£9 an hour, let alone £12.
To be fair, the cost of living here is a lot cheaper than in the south, (particularly London) but £480 before tax would be quite a big wage up here.
Richard, is that a ‘mean’, ‘median’ or ‘modal’ average, though?
Where I live (in the Black Country £27k is a bit of a dream wage. The most recent study I can find indicates that the national modal average wage (which is what really matters) is £15-20k.
The misuse of ‘average’ wages convinces the poorly paid that it is their own fault that they didn’t do better.
It may seem a nit-picking point, but I think it’s actually a crucial part of the propaganda message.
It’s the median
This video makes its point well, but:
1)There is NO political representation of these views
2) No party to vote for that will seriously address them
3) A manipulated vox populi that still believes in the trickle down/government =household myths.
4) A culture of celebrity worship of the wealthy that inhibits social change
Until there is a massive re-education (almost on the de-nazification level!)of the populace in these issues there will be no progress just a worsening of the situation. The population is willingly accepting its debt peonage and property scam culture as if it were a state of nature. CEO to average wage ratios are at least 300:1 if not higher. What MMTers refer to as ‘social purpose’ has virtually given way to ‘invisible hand fascism’ except the hand of state socialism for the rich is very visible indeed!
