Last November I wrote about Action Aid's campaign highlighting Barclays Bank's promotion of tax havens.
Barclays did, of course, deny the allegations made.
Today, at its AGM, Barclays should be held to account for this abuse. And its payment of obscene bonuses.
Good luck to all who are taking this message to Barclays today.
But, more than that, thanks for having the courage to say that both the use of tax havens and the payment of bonuses of the type Barclays pay are wrong. It takes courage to challenge the hegemonic thinking of today's world, where despite all the evidence of the immense harm they have caused bankers still think they have the power to reign supreme and few politicians have the will to challenge that view. I applaud those who do. You provide signs of hope where that is all too rare.

J. Macey’s book ” The Death of Corporate Reputation” explores why these corporations can be so brazen about their activities. There is NO political will to change this!

What qualities does an investment banker have that are so unique that he/she must be paid the earth to ensure they do not move to another employer? One gets the feeling that the ‘profession’ is so exclusive that thousands of ordinary people, who could be called upon the fill vacancies for ‘ordinary’ salaries, are not given a chance and that one must be of genius calibre,which investment bankers are clearly not,to qualify.
Why not try the old “you’re lucky to have a job!” approach that we mere mortals run up against so often?
I find the Centre for Alternative Technology’s Zero Carbon Britain report exciting and hopeful.
It inherently challenges all the values and paradigms to which you refer.
However you need to face up top a lot more reality if you are going to be part of any solution Richard.
The Green New Deal for instance is one eyed.
I want politics in the round, because that’s what is needed.
I always find it odd when criticised from the left for a lack if reality when that comment usually comes from the right
