It is a fact, universally acknowledged, at least by those who practice the art, that there are some days that are just not designed for blogging, and today is one of them.
A far too early train with little signal en route and then back to back meetings until well into the afternoon will sap most desire to blog, as well as the ability to deliver.
So please don't expect a lot and don't get upset (as some do) if I take a while to moderate comments. There are occassions when the day job has to come first, and the fact is most of this blog is written in what many would consider my free time (like early morning).

Richard, if the rest of the UK – and especially our supposed mentors and role models, namely the “great captains of industry” – had your grasp of essentials and tenacity, we’d really be “top of the world”. Enjoy – if that’s the appropriate word, given your busy schedule for today – a brief sabbatical from your Blog, and we look forward to your return.
Seconded! Keep up the good work Richard.
Thanks guys
Thirded !!!
I struggle to keep up with you most days anyway!
No problems -keep well Richard -I appreciate what you do to keep the debate around social justice alive. AS an M.E. sufferer, I’m taking a break from blog-reading for today!
I wish you well in your travelling. The London Bridge Signalling box is down causing chaos on SER on top of the Tube Strike. It is looking rough out there at the moment. Bring back the Great Eastern and steam.
Jazz trains!
