The original Putney debates of 1647 were a beacon on the road to political democracy. Their demands were defeated by the ‘Grandees’ (land owning commanders of the Army)with a divide and suppress strategy.
We can only hope the present Grandees- Mps of the Centre- Left Parliamentary parties and other organisations seeking political and economic reform, don’t do the same.
