I was amused to note the following person on the list of those signing the letter in the Telegraph attacking the 50p tax rate:
Alice Phillips
Head Teacher, St Catherine's School, Bramley
But it sure as heck is not entrepreneurial, is it?
And are heads now paid £150,000 in private schools?
All very weird.

Perhaps she wan’t acting out of self interest, but on principle.
I suspect she was acting on self interest – a lot easier to put up the fees and a lot less complaints if the parents have more money in their pockets as a result of cutting the 50p rate.
“But it sure as heck is not entrepreneurial, is it?”
Ah, that important ‘entrepreneurial’ work of pumping out priviledged job consumers of the old boy’s network. That’ll help create new jobs…
…for the old boy’s. I’m convinced!~
“And are heads now paid £150,000 in private schools?”
I get a sneaky suspicion that head teachers (or whatever self-important pseudo-title they use to sooth their egos) of many academies and free-schools are paid upwards of £150,000 per annum.
He can disagree with the principle even if he wouldn’t be affected by it personally, could he not?
I know that’s not familiar territory to you, of course
Of course
But she can’t say she’s an entrepreneur
A sign of how empty and asinine that word has now become?
How do you know she’s not an entrepreneur? You’re making an assumption because the lady lists her primary role as a head-teacher. Although I absolutely support some of your arguments (collection of unpaid taxes, more tax collectors etc) it worries me when you feel that you can state facts based upon limited knowledge and assumption whilst at the same time ridiculing others for doing just that.
Oh come on Tony. Try not to be trite
The list was of entrepreneurs who were asked to indicate their occupations
I didn’t expect to find a vicar on the list and there wasn’t one liste3d as such
Nor a headteacher either
And to suggest being a headteacher is a part time job is facile and does you no credit
So yes I’ll ridicule you for it. I’m emtitled to take the list at face value. 100% at face value. It’s you who is being very silly, indeed
Richard,
Because the lady is a head teacher doesn’t mean she a) hasn’t had her own business or b) hasn’t an interest in a business. You know you’re simply looking to pick hairs – I understand that the politician that is clearly part of your make-up says you should use any tool in the box to discredit your opponent but…
I’d like to be able to have a debate with you one day. I’m genuinely not a self-serving capitalist hell bent on not paying tax I just passionately believe that I’m right on this one and, like you I’ve a good few years of experience in many areas to draw upon. I’d just like it to be on important issues not whether we can ‘ridicule’ each other, or whether we can safely assume that someone who says they’re a head teacher isn’t also a business woman or hasn’t any other business experience. Facts Richard, just facts.
Facts
I used them
She said she was a headteacher on a letter that was said to be signed by people in their business capacity
That was the fact
Everything else you made up
IU stuck to the facts. You did not
Now stop looking stupid by trying to defend the impossible
As all of you are in the blatant falsehoods your campaign in putting forward – like there’s a 58% tax rate and that it’s proven that 50p tax has reduced tax take when there is not a shred of evidence to that effect
