This speech clearly lays out the massive injustice that freemarket neoliberalism has caused in the US and now the UK is not far behind. Please checkout the factsheet on the Washington Consensus on this website to see how this policy is implemented.
Richard you are so obviously driven by this sense of injustice and now young people are beginning to see how this will impact on their future psopects.
Thanks for posting this. I wish there was an MP who would tell that story in this country.
That was one of the best speeches I have ever seen delivered. I hope it rises in the youtube charts so more and more people get to see it.
This is deeply disturbing. These policies are unsustainable in the long run and will condemn both America and the middle class to decline as China rises. The United States is an Empire that has been captured by a totally callous and irresponsible plutocracy that doesn’t have a shred of patriotism but is only concerned with maintaining its privileges. Meanwhile the country is being bankrupted by the cost of foreign wars and refusal of the rich to pay their taxes. All very reminiscent of ancien regime France before the Revolution
It would be good to know what are the UK equivalent statistics. It would even better if the leader of the opposition spelt them out, again and again, until enough people get the message and public reaction/revulsion forces a slowing down, halting, and reversal of this dangerous trend – on both sides of the Atlantic. It’s not communism or socialism that is being advocated, just common decency, respect for humanity, and a desire for a civilised society.
@David:
The top 10% of income earners in the UK receives just over 30% of gross income while the bottom 10% recieves 1.3%. For details, see:

@GWI Have you got the stats for the top 1% – they tend to be even more stark.
A fine speech – more power to your elbow…
Very good speach….hits the nail in the head….
@David & Carol:
