Democrats in the House of Representatives have rejected White House efforts to build support for a deal extending Bush-era tax cuts, saying they will not put the measure to a vote unless it is modified, the FT reports.
I’m not surprised. I got a real sense of anger about this when in the US this week.
We had hopes for Obama. It looks like he’s failing. It’s time for true progressives to come out of the woodwork, in the US and here. People have had enough of the right and the abuse that those with wealth perpetrate. Keeping tax breaks for the rich when it is the rich who demand the deficit be cut is simply a thinly disguised demand for oppression. And I don’t think people are going to suffer this much longer anywhere.
And no I’m not talking revolution or any such stuff.
Think more like Berlin Walls.

To be fair to Obama, I don’t think he’s failing. He simply doesn’t have the power to do what he thought he could. Politics is the art of the possible and the opportunities for change in the US are unfortunately limited.
