I guess this is the sort of thing you hear at Yale, but one of the amusing questions of this morning was “what does a philosopher do when s/he goes on strike?”

That takes me back, a long time ago, to a question put to the teacher by another boy in my class:
“Sir, is it illegal for the Police to go strike?”
Before the teacher had time to answer, another boy answered:
“Of course not, there’d be nobody to arrest them if they did.”
Just recalling this brief incident, and I can smell the classroom.
