It’s good to see, amongst the general air of gloom, that Jeremy Browne MP has become a Minister of State at the Foreign Office responsible for the Overseas Territories.
Why is that good news?
First he’s a Lib Dem, and that has to be good news for this job. Much better than a Tory in post
Second, he’s been associated with the left of the Lib Dems — and that’s also good news for this job.
Which means he may well keep the pressure up on tax havens.
I bet they’re sweating in Georgetown.
They should be.

Richard – can you help me with something please?
Are you sore because Labour lost or because you voted for the Lib Dems and they ended up going into coalition with the Conservatives? Most of the posts over the last two weeks have struck me of someone who is a really bad loser who is then determined to rubbish the new because you do not like it. The Labour party have had the good sense to keep quiet (probably because they are too shocked at their dreadful showing and lack of rudder) as any noise they made would have at best been seen as sour grapes.
You seem shocked that Lib Dems (particularly those of the centre left) that you know personally have “betrayed” the “progressive movement” – don’t forget the they are politicians who will change their spots to take advantage of a situation. If I malign them here I apologise – all they need to do is to say “I don’t like this, I don’t agree with it” and vote against the coalition or join force with Labour.
Sure I’m sore
I’m sore because millions of people in the Uk will pay the rpice for this
If others won’t shout about that – I will
I’m proud to care about those people
I’m sorry you’re so cynical you don’t
