Walking the talk

Posted on

I mentioned the other day that I hooped none of the MPs I know would be embarrassed by the disclosure of their expenses. One who won’t be is Kelvin Hopkins, MP for Luton North.

As the Telegraph notes:

Mr Hopkins joins the thousands of commuters who take the Thameslink service from Luton to London each weekday morning, rather than maintaining a property near the Commons at taxpayers’ expense.

He could claim a second home allowance. He doesn’t. He doesn’t claim for food. He plays it straight. So he claimed £1,242 of expenses last year.

He’s a member of Labour’s awkward squad of left wingers — but walks the talk. I like people who do just that.
