These are my links for January 30th through February 1st:
- Fate of UBS hangs on tax evasion case | - Will the US withdraw UBS's banking licence
I think they might
- Is private-sector money the right tool to construct tomorrow's public Britain? | - No: We need local authority bonds
- Peter Mandelson backs new 'people's bank' at Post Office | - Yes we do need a People's Bank: emphatically so
But if Mandelson thinks that's a sop for privatising the Post Office he's mad: that immediately destroys the whole idea.
Who is advising him, or does he think we're really daft enough to buy this?
- Will Hutton talks to David Cameron about the economic crisis | - Cameron is very worrying here. To say "As a Conservative, I'm naturally sceptical of embracing anyone's theory or ideology" is not an indicator of great intellect.
And his obvious lack of understanding of Keynes and his belief that an appeal to businesses better nature is all we need to get out of our problems are both very scary indeed
And he's in the lead in the polls. It shows how bad Brown is
- Marina Hyde: It's Davos, but where is the Bono of the financial crisis? | - Well asked Marina
Give him hell - he's a tax fiddler
As she notes - I've made clear for some time now - he's not a part of the solution - he is part of the problem
And I think his days are numbered in this game
- Lessons from Pizza Hut | AccMan - Good advice for any accountant reading
- Caribbean Net News: BVI financial services chief warns about problems facing offshore centres - The writing is on the wall
He knows it
Game over, soon
- Tax Justice Network: US' Top 400 Taxpayers - Tax Justice US style
Earn $262 million
Pay tax at 17.2%
That's the promise Bush delivered on to the rich
Now it has to be reversed
- Allen Sinai: A $545 Billion Private Stimulus Plan - WSJ.com - Oh come on Rupert Murdoch
Bush did this once and that was enough
What you're actually saying is you want the US to have a 5% tax rate on foreign profits, and because all US corporations find it easy to relocate profits outside that country this will become the de facto contribution of corporate America to society
Pull the other one. We're not stupid. Nor is Obama
Get ready for unitary taxation instead: then he'll bring the profits and taxes home whether you like it or not
- Cowen says introduction of property tax is 'speculation' - The Irish Times - Fri, Jan 30, 2009 - You can't have a progressive tax system when your corporation tax rate is so far out of line with top rate income tax
