Foreign tax is not news and corporation tax is no source for complaint

Posted on

I was sent the following by a well- informed editor over the weekend:

We've actually stopped reporting that any company is considering moving its tax residence from the UK or anything related to it. It is so self-serving and utter publicity-seeking.

It's almost got to the stage that if anyone invented a company in the morning and let it slip that they were considering moving its residence, someone somewhere would publish it.

It reminds me of when Andy Cole retired from playing football from England some years ago. If you remember, members of the public followed up by announcing their retirement as well. It's completely meaningless.

When UK companies have something reasonable to complain about, then we will start reporting it. Corporate taxes ain't it.

I think that sums things up rather well.
