Brown: scared of a tiny elite

Posted on

It's not the language I'd always used, but I respect the sentiment in the Daily Mirror, who said:

[I]f Brown is clever he can make big political capital out of opening wallets and bank accounts of the too-rich-to-pay-tax brigade.

Resentment is growing here over freeloading Loadsamoney loudmouths who act as if they are too important to be taxed.

German leader Angela Merkel is cracking down on the tax-avoidance haven of Liechtenstein. And Monaco, Andorra and Switzerland are sweating on a European Union clampdown.

Britain has legal jurisdiction over the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, British Virgin Islands and a swathe of boltholes used to hide huge amounts of money.

Brown should give the rich a squeeze, here and abroad, and ignore any pip squeaks.

It would be fair and popular - and there aren't many government policies we can say that about at the moment.

Fair and popular? Go on, try it Gordon. There's good reason for doing so. The Mirror is right. They're also right in saying that if you don't the only explanation is that:

our Premier has run scared of a tiny elite

That's what really worries me.
