The OECD has issued a welcome press release concerning the developing problem concerning tax evasion in Liechtenstein. It says:

I have got reports that German Finance Ministry spokesman Torsten Albig has said of the Liechtenstein tax evasion scandal sweeping Germany:

It is all about criminality … the problem is not the possibilities presented by Liechtenstein, the problem is the criminal energies of German tax evaders.

I dealt with the ethics of Germany securing information on tax evasion by its citizens in Liechtenstein by paying an informer yesterday. The FT has tackled the issue today in its editorial. It says:

There must be tight controls on the ability of governments to spy on their own citizens, but unco-operative tax havens deserve this [...]

The ambassador of Liechtenstein in Germany, Prinz von und zu Liechtenstein has been quoted in Der Speigel in German saying that tax evasion isn’t legal in Liechtenstein and that:
This is often overlooked in this heated debate. We also don’t invite anybody from abroad to do it.
