PWC is closing offices, but not in tax havens

Posted on

Accountancy Age features what might best be called a 'puff piece' for PWC this morning under the headline:

PwC's 6 areas of focus for private businesses in 2018

So let's talk the reality here. PWC are closing six of their regional offices in the UK this year. The full list is Norwich, Liverpool, Sheffield, Dungannon, Plymouth and Swansea.

I have seen no announcement of their pulling out of Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Cayman, the BVI, Bermuda or the like.

And this is not chance. Puff they might, but the truth is PWC is not in the business of serving private business. It's in the business of serving rent extraction. And there's not enough of that in Norwich, Liverpool, Sheffield, Dungannon, Plymouth and Swansea to interest them. So they're quitting in favour of tax havens.

Which tells you most of what you need to know about them.
