Moderation on this blog will be very limited for the next couple of days. I am going for a long walk on the Norfolk coast with a night spent away in the company of John Christensen and David Quentin, both fellow tax justice campaigners, of course.
I have to admit to looking forward to it - even if it looks like we have chosen what might be the worst days for weather for weeks. There are pubs en route. And along the way little bits of the world will be put to rights, I am sure. John and I have a long history of such discussions - and much of the tax justice movement was originally built on them. It will be good to have David add his own distinctive ooinions.
I may well be moderating comments then, but just not here.

Have a brilliant few days and recharge those batteries. We’ll need it in the weeks to come
Enjoy your walk, all three of you, and we’ll look forward to the results of the conversations!
Take care, though. The tides will be at springs, and their undercutting power might weaken the unconsolidated beach margins. Watch out for collapses – there was one at Barton-on-Sea in Hampshire only yesterday.
Noted!
‘unconsolidated beach margins’
Ah… a new type of financial instrument I have not yet heard of: UBM’s, perhaps they will be the next to bring down the banking system.
Thanks for that Havantaclu. We were at Barton -on-Sea today with the grandchildren.weather wonderful they even went swimming.9
Hope you have a good holiday Richard. Your work ethic is commendable and appreciated but time to reflect and recharge is good for everyone.
Great idea. We should all take time out in nature more frequently. Living on the coast, I have no excuses. I hope the 3 wise men come up with some new insights to help guide us through the political fog. Those pubs sound good. Cheers!
I have to say we’ve had an excellent day
And covered many miles
At Cromer there is a pub called The Wellington, where you could honour the memory of The Great Duke. But beware of the gaming machines on the Pier. They are not a reliable form of off shore finance.
🙂
We’re muddling and going nowhere
‘We’re muddling and going nowhere’
Tory Manifesto?
Demetrius us, I know, a railway enthusiast and there is sometimes code in our comments as I share the affliction
The Muddle and Go Nowhere was the nickname of the Midland and Great Northern line that served north Norfolk
Enjoy Richard. You have definitely earned it. Who was it recently who went on a walking holiday and came back with a big idea?
If you don’t mind a plug we’ll try to fill the gap (a little at least) at Progressive Pulse.
It’s only two days
And I have plugged Progressive Pulse today
Related fact:
Since 2010, child homelessness has increased by more than the entire population of Great Yarmouth.
In the footsteps of that great writer W.G.Seebald (can we look forward to Rings of Saturn II?)
Have a great few days away.
David Cameron – probably the most discredited British politician of the modern age – was on TV last night telling the voter that Jeremy Corbyn was not fit to be prime minister!!
Whether you agree with him is not the point. How someone who got it so wrong about BREXIT thinks that they have the credibility to say this shows that there has been no realisation by the man that HE is the loser.
And what is this? Is there a whiff of panic amongst the Tory ranks?
I think there is some panic PSR. The Torygraph has been going into paroxysms of Corbyn vilification over the last few days that has even surprised me. They must have sent teams of photographers (all of whose feet deserve to be run over!) with the sole aim o f finding unappealing images of Corbyn which are then printed in huge size on the front page.
Despite the polls, there is significant fear that the Tory ‘strong..stable..flag wave’ stuff is running out of steam and that the fact that there is nothing behind the cardboard cut out figure of May is being perceived.
I don’t hold out much hope, but the fear is there.
Have a nice Journey !
Have a good one.
I’ve never been to the East Coast & all I know about it is from M R James stories…..
so come home safe & don’t blow any medieval whistles
