So here we are – the blueprint of how to undermine a State and the honest business people trying to make a living. It is also a blueprint for an economic race to the bottom.
This – allied to dropping wages which makes the demand of VAT free goods increase – is a recipe for disaster. People will buy the cheapest stuff as wages shrink – more opportunity for shady practice. The Tories wil point to sales to hide the reality of what is happening of course.
The hollowing out of HMRC has all the hallmarks of what was done to the SEC (Security and Exchange Commission) in America as a prelude to the USA induced 2008 crash.
We know enough about what happens when we deregulate or turn a blind eye to this sort of thing. It just is not on. It makes me profoundly sad to hear stuff like this.
HMRC – I’m no royalist, but the HM bit in the title makes the betrayal to legitimate UK business people even worse to bear.
What gets me is that we know that the Kings and Queens of old used taxes and duties to build the very country and nation (and our history for good and bad) that most dewy eyed Tories say they love. The intellectual disjuncture is unforgiveable really.
HMRC silence on this matter veritably deafening.
Perhaps a consequence of Brexit will be the UK ceasing to be a conduit because it will be either:
a) the UK is no longer a useful backdoor to the EU because of tariffs
or
b) the Uk will have to invest in Border Security & HMRC as the only way that the EU will allow tariff free access.
The current Tory ideology is to shrink the state – mainfested as reducing the number of state employees and/or the outsorucing of state functions. In the case of taxes the end point is a failure to collect taxes/a denial that the state is failing to collect taxes. Osborne et al have actively taken this route – with the results we see. Funny that nobody challenges the gurning cretin, the pig-lover or May-hem on this subject.
On a related note – Saviano’s book Gomorrah opens in the port of Naples (2007) with an interesting & toxic mix of tax-dodging Chinese importers/Italian gangsters – same play book as described in the video (clothes). However, it would seem that the action has now shifted to the United (Gangster) Kingdom – & all facilited by Tory ideology. & people voted for this – really?
