Unreasonable people change the world

Posted on

A person commenting on this blog this morning asked in the context of a blog I wrote on tax cheating :

And if not parliament and the court who decides what is cheating?

The following quote from George Bernard Shaw came to my mind when reading this comment:

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Oddly, I happened to note this was referred to on Sports Personality of the Year last night. It does, however, refer to all change. Change happens because unreasonable people not only think it desirable, they change the world's view until it happens.

That's what is happening with tax cheating right now. What bemuses me is how far in denial many people are on this simple fact.
