For the last seven years my near constant work companion has been Rosa, a cocker spaniel who came to live with us when she was a few years old.
I've just had to say goodbye to Rosa, who died half an hour ago. The office is going to feel a little empty for me and Hector, our other cocker, for a while.
Thanks for reading this post.

Sincere condolences on the loss of a friend and companion.
An awful hole in your life .. sorry to hear of it. Take care.
Thanks
I’m sure you’ll never forget Rosa, just as I never forget Holly. My condolences (and no need to reply).
I’m sorry to hear of it. I love dogs, they just don’t live long enough.
My condolences to you Richard on this sad loss. Life feels so empty when you lose a canine best friend. Take care.
Thanks
Even tougher on my sons – the first dog they’ve lost
Whatever we may disagree on, I am very sorry to hear that, as someone who loves my three cats to bits I can imagine how upset you must be, I am very sorry for your loss.
Thanks Richard
We all share a common humanity!
Deepest sympathies Richard,
I lost my canine companion of twelve years a fortnight ago
Many thanks to you and all for kind comments
All have been appreciated
Sorry about your loss too – it may be irrational, but it’s quite a big thing when you’ve spent so much time with a dog
Spaniels are lovely daffy dogs. I hope your boys (and Hector) don’t grieve too long. Enjoy and share the memories you have.
You have my sincerest condolences for your great loss.
I hope that in the not to distant future you’ll be able to reflect fondly on all those wonderful memories.
I live with a 10 year old and 11 year old sons
Tears this morning are being replaced by web searches for puppies tonight
Give it time, I’ve said!
A bit slow to spot this blog, Richard as I’m on holiday at present. Just want to add my condolences too. As someone who also works mostly from home, with pets for company for most of my working day, and have lost a few over the years, I know the feeling.
Thanks Ivan
Have a good holiday
Really sorry to hear that Richard. All the best.
I express my condolences too and wish Rosa peace knowing how she has helped and comforted a good person in his work.
I reckon she knew a great deal about tax for a dog
Pity she couldn’t tell anyone!
