Polly Toynbee is willing to stick her neck out. That's why I admire her. I admire her motives. And courage.
And of course she gets it wrong sometimes. We all do. Prediction is very, difficult, especially if it's about the future as Nils Bohr, the nobel physicist, once said.
But she carries on, doggedly, determinedly, and correctly, because she believes in justice.
This mornings Guardian article is a great example of her getting things right. Please read it. She blows Osborne apart.

I had a thought about the 45p tax rate. It was obvious that dropping the rate would be very unpopular. So why do it?
Well, where will it be most unpopular? In the places that are anti-Tory and where a salary of £150k is something that nobody can even aspire to. Like Scotland. It is like a kick in the teeth. It certainly will be a constant theme of the independence for Scotland campaign.
So maybe it allows the Tories to campaign for the Union while making it more likely they get the result that, in all logic, they really want – an independent Scotland. Or is that too Machiavellan?
That’s a really good point Roger. I think Cameron would be very happy if Scotland votes in favour of independence in 2014 as it would make it easier for the Tories to win in the remainder of the UK. Likewise, Boris Johnson would be happy to lose to Ken in May as it makes it easier for him to challenge for the Tory leadership should the Tories fail to win enough seats to continue in govt either with or without the Lib Dems (as looks increasingly likely)…
Amen
Richard, how can only 16% of the 400 people who earns over £10m pay any tax at all? Have Labour published something on this? Are these people actually UK residents? Because if so, then we serviously need a re-write of our tax code.
I fear that there may be trouble brewing in this green and pleasant land.
Polly Toynbee has consistently attacked universal benefts and favoured “targetting”. I do not admire her. She is part of the traison des clercs which is the labour leaning media left
Mentioning, ‘Traison des Clerks’. Respect. You’re wasted on this blog!
