A combination of having no internet connection in my office today (thank BT), doing a recording session with the BBC (for File on 4, Radio 4, 8pm, 13 March ) and a quick round trip to London for a Green New Deal meeting meant today has seen one of my lowest weekday blog outputs for, well, ages.
BT permitting I may be back to normal tomorrow. Hope so. Having written 8,000 blogs in 5 or so years it always feels weird not to be in full flow.

I’m new to your blog but I’m already a close follower. Thank you for taking the time to give us some well-researched information. I still don’t know exactly what to believe, but at least I now feel better informed.
Thanks
Have you thought about getting a USB PAYG wireless broadband stick as a backup? some routers can accept them, and when plugged in, and auto switch if the broadband fails.
Three do wireless domgles, and you just pay a £10 and will have backup easily.
In a rural area they’re like having steam powered Internet access – with a service on Tuesdays if there is an R in the month
So although I have one it’s no real back up
And the iPad kept email going, just, but it’s no writing tool!
I have a “WiFi” 3g USB adaptor.
The USB broadband adaptor plugs into the unit and the computer connects to it via its internal WiFi….I just stick it in an upstairs room and connect at 7Mb/sec….in Norfolk…..near Binham.
Using a proper plug in aerial with one of them will make a world of a difference – can dramatically improve signal quality.
