From the Independent, who I hope will forgive me for using it, but it really is very good:
Sometimes a picture really does say it (almost) all.
In this case - that Osborne's an outright disaster.

Actually this would make an excellent political poster , remember Thatcher’s not working election poster.
Yes, you’re right, Teresa.
By the way, only discovered this blog today – but consider it now well-and-truly bookmarked1

Does that mean Alistair Darling got it even more wrong than Osborne?
2.6% was always going to be a complete joke.
It was happening….
Labour policies worked
Oh dear, this was the sort of thing that Professor Allen used to warn us against in the mid 1950’s, usually waving a copy of the latest Daily Express as a dire example about representing statistics. The figures are one thing, alas the poster picture in visual terms suggests a 40% drop. At least according to my old school ruler.
By my calculations, a 40% drop is almost spot on!:)
What tends to be forgotten is that, despite almost zero growth, the coalition are still borrowing record amounts of £10-£11 billion a month!
Which rather proves the point that, the more you cut spending, the more business goes down the tubes, the government have less coming in in tax recepts and more going out in benefit payments, usually meaning there has to be more borrowing to make up for the shortfall.
This will just continue until this government sees sense and invests in the economy to create jobs. Believe me, there’s plenty that needs doing.
By the way – are the government STILL threatening to put up interest rates? Totally insane!
