Labour came from fourth to win the Gloucestershire County Council by-election in Rodborough, Stroud, last night.
The election was won by only 3 votes.
Result
Labour: 793
Conservatives: 790
Libdem: 660
Greens: 260Labour swing from 2009 was a massive 19.4%. The by-election was called after the death of the sitting Conservative Councillor.
In 2009 Labour were behind even the Greens. The results in 2009 were:
(CON) 35.3%
(LD) 31.3%
(GRN) 21.1%
(LAB) 12.2%
It's a shame to see the fall in the Green vote.
But it's great news for Labour.
And shockingly bad for the Tories.

How else can you elect a single member of a council? How would it have been more democratic for any other candidate to have won?
It has its ups and downs at being democratic. If it was purely democratic we would all sit in the council and the cnmmons. This system does mean you can win with out a majority. That is how it goes we need more not less seats for AV to cover up the cracks. This is the issue of the AV bill at the moment getting rid of seats, is not democracy, more seats, were getting there.
Never mind Gloucs by-elections, am waiting for you to blog on this!!

CON 31.6 (-3.7)
LD: 26.4 (-3.9)
GRN: 10.4 (-10.7)
LAB: 31.7 (+19.5)
So that’s a fairly small drop for the Cons, a massively improved performance over their supposed national level for the LDs. And 58% of the voters voted FOR a coalition candidate. Pretty ringing endorsement.
