Do you support this – I would have thought you might have provided a link to a CD shop that would supply this from the UK (and not a country with a “special” VAT regime) this providing much needed employment and tax revenues in the UK

Is there not a space for a “tax compliant” online store?
I fully support the aims of the writers of the song, and would happily pay more to ensure that the cause was better supported, the dis-intermediation promised by electronic delivery of music has not really happened I think.
On the other hand, I prefer Guy Mitchell’s “There’s A Pawnshop”.

@John Hang on, after a hard fought battle by the music industry VAT is charged on downloads at the rate applicable in the country of consumption. So this is rubbish…

@Richard Allen – There are, I understand benefits other than the headline VAT rate to basing an electronic delivery business in Lux.
Do you think Apple are based in Luxembourg because they like the Count’s Castle?
Another nice irony… we can’t download it because Apple won’t sell into an area outside the VAT zone.

@john I’m sure there are but what seems to be completely lost on all you tax boffins is that a coal face advantage with VAT causes a market distortion and directly effects other retailers at the lowest level. The reason the music industry fought the download VAT issue was to protect small labels. It may come as a surprise but not every company is a multi million pound start up with corporation tax concerns. This is where all these VAT avoiders have made a grave mistake. Screwing some high level tax is not the same as screwing VAT as it effects the lowliest business trying to start up in business.
@James That’s a perfectly normal music industry licence arrangement. You can’t by American releases in UK shops… same reason. Nothing to do with tax.
@Richard Allen – You have lost me. You say, in a previous post, that VAT is charged in the country of consumption for Music delivered electronically, so there would be no VAT revenue loss here surely?
If you are talking about LVCR, I think it does create harmful effects and should be changed.
@john Yes I assumed the previous posting was claiming that VAT was being avoided on downloads.
Great to hear support for LVCR reform (or rather policing…its being abused) ….my stuck record is starting to get through.Only been going for five years now….
