My work on the tax gap, with the Tax Justice Network was referred to on BBC’s Question Time last night.

My thanks to the questioner who made the point incredibly well.
Ian Hislop made his best points of the night on this issue – and Vince Cable had an uncomfortable time.

The problem that Labour has in using the tax gap, is the question of why wasnt it tackled when they were in office? I think the answer is that problem is worse now than ever (the recession has encouraged the black market, for instance, as well as the increase in tax rates), but it would be usefult o know if this is a growing problem, or has always been the same.

b) It is growing – HMRC data and World bank data both show that

I was the bod on Question Time in Liverpool who asked the question and made the follow up point about being out on my ear if I only did 7% of my job. In addition to my day job I am a PCS lay rep and I was asked to help staff the PCS stall at the Labour Party Conference where I managed to hand a copy of Richard Murphy’s report to Ed Miliband as he was entering the conference hall on the final day of the conference.
