Surely the crux of this is fairly simple. England, probably decisively, wants to be governed by anyone but Brown. Scotland and Wales, even more overwhelmingly, want anyone but Cameron. Northern Ireland, as ever, appears to have slightly different concerns.
Isn’t the answer simply to split the Union up and let each country go its own way: Wales and Scotland would no doubt want to work more closely with Europe and spend a greater proportion on health and education. Isn’t that the democractic solution?
