Darling gets ready to hit tax havens hard

March 3rd, 2008

The Times has reported that:

THE chancellor is to step up hostilities against Britain’s super-rich by pressing for sanctions against Monaco, the Mediterranean tax haven.

Under one proposal, to be discussed by Alistair Darling with European finance ministers on Tuesday, there will be a levy on any money transferred to a Monaco account from anywhere in Europe.

Withholding taxes on all payments into a haven is something I’ve asked for for some time. Good to find I’ve got an ally.

Look at the cynicism where the tax partner at Grant Thorton says he doesn’t condone tax evasion, but avoidance is Ok saying money will move to Asia.
