Richard

This idea of a tipping point echoes what David McWilliams writes here
http://www.davidmcwilliams.ie/2008/02/27/the-global-pendulum-is-now-swinging-to-the-left
He links it to the Obama momentum in the US, and sees it as a real change in the world.

Interesting times ...

Very pleased to hear the 'new' OECD view re Monaco, Liechtenstein, Andorra expressed on Radio 4 Today programme at 8 this morning. Perhaps another sign that things are changing.

Of course that is an option.

But I do question your assumption about government efficiency. Of course, on occassion this is appalling, but nothing near as bad as the City right now, for example.

Hi Richard,
This article only covered half of the issue, another half of the issue is "The time is right for change in the way we USE the taxpayer's money". Until the government spend tax payers money as carefuly as their own, even if the rich pay more tax, it will not translate into, say the petrol tax escalator being removed (As we have seen - the extremely good CT tax take had resulted in no other benefit to the middle class and the less fortunate such as pension increae to those who truly deserve). Marxist nationalised all national income, but obviously, they did not spend those money very well.

Funnily, Singapore and Hong Kong actually returned its budget surplus to its people [http://taxwithedgar.blogspot.com/2008/03/hong-kong-pushes-ante-in-its-budget.html]

Can we actually expect the HM government to return the billion it term of tax refund etc to the middle class if they have got £50bn off Tesco and the Oligrach ?
