To come off the topic of tax for a moment I regard it as just a little ironic that the head of one of the most excessive, superfluous and indeed wealthy of all religious organisations should say that. But I am a (lapsed) Protestant.........

On the question of T Blair, it was always my impression from what I have read that the person at No 10 whose snout was deepest into the trough of money and influence by a mile was Cherie Blair, not Tony.</description>
