As such I am not too concerned about a serious precedent being set. If tax had been abated I would have been very worried, but not one penny has been. And interest is still due too. In India, where I am from, the government has launched quite a few such schemes. People have grown accustomed to expect the announcement of another such scheme come Budget time. There is a school of thought that says such amnesty schemes actually act as a disincentive to honest taxpayers, if the penalty is not harsh enough. Are there such noises in the UK too?
